The resulting solution was a group of highly configurable tools that had no dependency on any other process resulting in a smooth rollout. The monitoring tools greatly increased the quality of data in the transmissions before the main frame could process the data. The integration with outlook dashboard enabled the concerned officers to frequently review the performance indicators and take action.
Naval healthcare organization had operations spread across various counties. With many remote centers working in different locations, the navy desired to develop a monitoring and alerting system to improve its data quality. This monitoring system should observe data coming from all registered medical information systems and enable the officers to take appropriate action as and when any anomaly was observed.
At the core of the business problem were the files that were to be monitored. With various types of files being sent from information systems across the globe, a schedule had to be maintained for each information system along with procedures on how to analyze them. An anomaly detector had to be built for various errors that can happen during transmission of information from the remote information systems to the main frame. The errors had to be handled with a graded escalation process for resolution.
The challenge was addressed with a methodical approach and was delivered in three phases. Initial step was to build a scheduling and monitoring system, followed by anomaly detector and escalation processor, and lastly an executive performance indicator dashboard.
As soon as the scheduling and monitoring tool was created to keep a check on each type of file being transmitted, it immediately started to weed out basic transmission problems. This tool was then enhanced to process the files, look for problems and send alert reports to the head of the remote establishments for error rectification. As a result, a lot of erroneous data was corrected by the remote information system itself further improving the data quality.
For higher visibility into the data quality process, key transmission parameters were used to build key performance indicators. Key officers were giver direct access to this information by integrating the performance indicators with the officer’s outlook software.
